The Gems Teaching Internship Initiative is a unique opportunity to live and work in an idyllic, natural environment while you begin, develop or undertake a new direction in early childhood education.

We’re looking for people who are excited to make a change in their life to join us transforming and developing young tamariki’s minds, whilst enjoying the lifestyle in an amazing part of New Zealand.

This is a unique opportunity to take part in a program where you can learn on the job as you begin an incredible new career in early childhood education, enhance and develop your established skillset in a new direction or are looking for a completely new challenge in a new career.

The initiative is a three-year program that offers flexibility around working and studying with a number of incentives as you move through the program including; set hours, access to funding, the potential of guaranteed positions within the organisation, access to mentorship, and the opportunity to qualify for the Gems Educational Scholarship.

We’re looking for amazing individuals who are excited about transforming their lives and the lives of tamariki, in an natural, supportive environment with a team of highly qualified and passionate people working together to provide the best possible environment for children to grow and learn.

The Gems Teaching Internship Initiative has been developed as a three year course, designed in partnership with training institutes to support you on your journey to becoming a registered Early Childhood Teacher.

 
 

Year One

Joining the initiative in the first year will give you a nurturing and supportive introduction to the industry. Here are the features and benefits of this initial year: 

  • You will need level papers 5, 6 and 7 to be eligible for joining the internship programme

  • Tertiary study while you work

  • Guaranteed work of 18 hours per week at one of the Gem’s centres in Queenstown 

  • Ultimate work/life/study balance

  • Study through SIT which is fee free

  • Negotiable agreement around working days/hours

  • Support for you and your family, as you become part of ours

  • Enroll your own children in one of our centres at a discounted childcare rate

  • Experienced mentors who are able to guide and support you

  • There is one place available at each of our three centres so there will be a maximum of three interns undertaking year one 

  • Competitive remuneration.

Year Two

The second year of will be a continuation of your studies and we will continue to give you all the support you need to thrive! Theis year has the following benefits: 

  • Tertiary study while you work

  • Guaranteed work of 24 hours per week at one of the Gem’s centres in Queenstown

  • Increased level of study as you become more confident and emersed on the industry

  • Study through SIT which is fee free 

  • Your mentor has allocated time set aside to help you directly with your studies

  • As you develop, you will be able to take more responsibility and have a direct impact on the tasks and learning within the room 

  • Access to peer review and regular check ins and the ability to feedback on your own progress

  • Discounted childcare rate at our centres

  • There is one place available at each of our three centres, so there will be a maximum of three interns undertaking year two.

Year Three

This year offers a full scholarship and is available all those who have completed Year 1 and Year 2. Applicants who are able to enter directly into this year, by having a degree already, are subject to an application and interview process. The features of this year includes;

  • Guaranteed work of 24 hours per week at one of the Gem’s centres in Queenstown 

  • 4 weeks paid placement at another childcare centre to gain wider industry experience (24 hours of work per week)

  • Access to professional development worth $400. This will be agreed with a mentor and must align with your study goals.

  • As your studies progress, so will your influence and input into the learning spaces and the teaching

  • Discounted childcare rate at our centres

  • Your full course costs are paid (50% at the beginning, and balance at the end of the year)

  • There is one place available at each of our three centres, so there will be a maximum of three interns undertaking the final year

  • You will be bonded for 24 months following study completion

  • Assurance of permanent employment once your study is complete.
