Emergency Closure information
Effective from the 22nd May 2020
Emergency closures could happen due to power outage, heavy snow fall, black ice on the roads, or other extreme weather conditions.
Gems must operate under current licensing criteria at all times. We need a certain number of registered staff on site. Some of our staff members need to travel to Gems from other parts of the district, which may have different weather conditions than where the Centre is located. These emergency closures are for the safety of our staff as well as the families travelling to and from the Centre.
Gems will follow the advice of QLDC, the NZ Police and during term times the schools of the Queenstown District.
Parents will be advised as early as possible if the centre will not open at the normal time via our website, local Facebook pages and text messages.
If the centre cannot open by 12.30pm, it will stay closed for the day.
In the event of an early emergency closure, parents will be informed via text message.
Rebate rates are standard for all children, and across the fee schedule including the Meal Fee.
Rebate rate example (Gems Kōwhai): 3h delay in opening for 6.5hour day for under 2-year-old: $59 * 39% = $23.01 refund for that day. (Or 61% of normal daily fee to be paid.)
